Our Halloween Candy Buyback Was Featured On ABC Channel 20 News

ABC News Channel 20 recently did a story about our Halloween Candy Buyback happening today and tomorrow.

Here’s the article and a link to the video:

Cash_for_Halloween_CandyHalloween is that time of year where kids get to stock up on candy. After the trick-or-treating is all said and done, most kids are left with an over abundance of candy, which is why a local dentist from Advanced Dental Care of Springfield is offering local children cash in exchange for candy.

“It’s ok to eat candy, it’s okay to enjoy treats, but not to excess, we all know that kids get way more candy than they need,” said Dr. Matt Vandermolen of Advanced Dental Care.

Dr. Vandermolen and his team are hoping to give your kids a break from the sweets to help prevent candy provoking cavities.

“What were doing is having the kids come in, and we’ll weigh their candy and we will give them a dollar per pound of their candy up to five pounds,” said Dr. Vandermolen.

The cash for candy event is part of a nationwide effort to not only help limit the amount of candy eaten by kids, but to also help support our troops overseas.

“We want kids to enjoy some of the candy they have and then give them an opportunity to return some of that candy to our troops overseas,” said Dr. Vandermolen.

Captain Dutch Grove of the Illinois National Guard says something so small, like a piece of candy, is like a piece of home to the men and women serving overseas.

“It’s like Christmas and you can never thank those people enough but to know that groups get together here at home and people pass by and donate in order to send us those things, it’s a great feeling to know that we are not forgotten,” said Captain Goves.

The cash for candy event will be taking place at Advanced Dental Care of Springfield on Friday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, November 2, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Halloween buy back candy will be shipped to Operation Gratitude in California where it will be sorted, repackaged, and distributed to troops serving overseas.
