How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?

When you choose All-on-4 as a solution for your missing teeth, four implant posts will be surgically placed into your jawbone. These posts will eventually act as support for a full denture, providing the prosthesis with stability and chewing power that is comparable to that of natural teeth.

It should be noted that when it comes to the All-on-4 procedure, the way the implant posts are placed makes all the difference. The implants near the back of the mouth will be inserted at a 45-degree angle. This is done so that they can form a bond with the parts of the jaw where there’s more bone density.

The All-on-4 procedure is performed to replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. As such, it’s recommended for patients who have suffered from extensive tooth loss. Bear in mind that you can only have dental implants placed if your mouth is in good overall health, and you will need to be able to commit to habits that minimize the risk of dental implant failure (such as brushing and flossing regularly).

It’s worth noting that not as much bone density is required for All-on-4 because of the way the implant posts are placed. As a result, All-on-4 can often still be a viable option for patients who don’t currently qualify for traditional dental implant procedures.

Benefits of All-on-4 Implants

  • More Varied Diet: The implant posts will provide enough chewing power to handle most foods without issue, allowing you to enjoy a wider variety of nutritious meals.
  • Easier Oral Hygiene: Taking care of All-on-4 is relatively simple because you don’t have to worry about investing in specialized cleaning products the way you would with traditional dentures; you can simply brush and floss as you normally would.
  • Prevention of Bone Loss: The implant posts will help stimulate the jaw, which will stop the bone from deteriorating the way it typically would after tooth loss.
  • A Confident Grin: All-on-4 looks and feels very natural, which makes it easier to show off your grin with confidence.

All-On-4 vs. Traditional Implants

It can take six or eight dental implants placed the traditional way to support a full denture, but All-on-4 makes it possible to do the same job with fewer posts. And since All-on-4 can eliminate the need for bone grafting, it often comes with a shorter treatment plan. It’s also worth noting that with All-on-4, it may be possible to receive new teeth on the same day as your implant surgery.
